Belgacom TV secures BBC domestic channels

By Robert Briel | March 3, 2009 | 15:15 UK

In a landmark agreement Belgian IPTV operator Belgacom TV has secured the rights to distribute all domestic BBC channels on its network. Until now these channels were only available on cablenets in the country.

Subscribers to the Belgacom TV Classic bouquet, the basic tier, will receive BBC1, BBC2 and BBC World News. Customers of the ~Belgacom TV Select bouquet receive an additional six channels, BBC3, BBC4, Cbeebies, CBBC, BBC Prime and BBC HD.

Until now, Belgacom TV only distributed two international channels, BBC World News and BBC Prime. The domestic BBC channels used to be exclusive to cable thanks to an official distribution contract regulating the so-called “overspill” reception of, at the time, BBC1 and BBC2.
